God's promise in scripture is to give us life in abundance.  "If the son sets you free, you will be free indeed."  This is prophetic to the kind of life God wanted you and me to live: a life of freedom.  In fact Christ said in Luke 4:18 in the Message Bible, "God's Spirit is on me;  He's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the burdened and battered free, to announce, "This is God's year to act!  In essence, Jesus' work was to bring us freedom by 'announcing pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, thereby setting the burdened and battered free."
